Dbkl Goes Down Hard On Food Operators In China Town Netizens Say It Is Pointless

MEE tarik has always been a favourite among Malaysians who enjoy noodles, more so since the meal is usually halal, being propagated by the predominantly Muslim Hui community from China.
But lately, the noodles which requires pulling to be made is also being pulled off the streets by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for making illegal extensions beyond their designated areas.
The tables and chairs placed along the walkway were said to prohibit movement or create traffic congestions.
Here a video on X captures a scene which supposedly showed a DBKL operation at China Town in Jalan Sultan.
Officers could be even confiscating the plastic chairs, canopies and cooking utensils of these restaurant owners.

 
A captcha embedded in the video informed that the operation happened at 28 Sept, involving the mee tarik operator along Jalan Sultan.
The video garnered some applause from netizens who welcomed the crackdown. However, most netizens were pessimistic, believing that the effort will yield only short term results or were just for show.
Netizen Jeng Yah added that DBKl should also remove the “camera service crew” at the front of KLCC who are there every night.
Likely Jeng Yah was referring to the group of people who prohibited tourists from taking photos with the KLCC as the background, instead attempting to charge them a fee for taking those photos.

Another netizen suggested that the same be done at the area near Georgetown too, hinting that it resembles the current situation at Jalan Sultan.

Then there was OLa Scott who said that these should all be taken as they are the reason why the parking areas are all jammed up from Robertson. 

いすちゃん may have visited Jalan Sultan recently, for he added that the place appears to be the same since they all have their tables out, and that DBKL’s effort was a waste of time.

One netizen suggested that during the operation, the officers should also speak to the people.
Those unable to converse in the Malay language are obviously immigrants from China, he claims, saying that these people should be apprehended.
Above the many suggestions and comments, we prefer to be optimistic regarding the situation.
Any effort to promote law and order is indeed welcome, but hopefully DBKL extends their law enforcement to each and everyone, regardless of race of religion.
To the mee tarik lovers, the meal is best enjoyed in the designated spots, without expense to the convenience of other public users. —Focus Malaysia
