Netizens Query Newly Minted Influencer Siti Mastura
NETIZENS are abuzz with debate over whether the controversial Kepala Batas-PAS MP Siti Mastura Muhammad for is leveraging TikTok as an influencer to raise funds, following her legal loss to DAP members in a defamation suit.
A video circulating on social media platforms shows the good ‘Dr’ promoting a coffee brand. It sparked jokes and serious debates on the MP’s recent court case.
However, the jokes became serious after a popular account on X, JOKER, alleged that Siti Mastura receives a 50% commission from each Saigon coffee. This prompted the brand to issue a statement denying the allegations.
“We would like to emphasise that the statement made by a social media account on the X platform recently, claiming that Siti Mastura receives a 50% commission from each Saigon Coffee outlet, is entirely untrue and baseless.
“We strongly deny this allegation. We have requested the account owner to delete the post to avoid any legal action being taken to protect the reputation of Saigon Coffee,” the statement read.
The company also uploaded a post saying the post by Joker is ‘fitnah’ and that the latter has removed the post. A check on the Joker’s page on X shows that the post has been removed.
Nevertheless, other X users also uploaded the video.
A user criticised the MP for promoting what they called a brand linked to a communist country. The issue here is that Mastura was sued for criticising the DAP which she linked to the infamous Communist Party of Malaya leader Chin Peng.
Another X user encouraged the MP to become an influencer, adding that she could then cause more trouble and get bailed out by the public, who will pay for the fines.
