Covid 19 Cases Drop 97 1pct In March 31 April 6 Period
The number of Covid-19 cases dropped by 97.1 percent to 493 cases in the 14th Epidemiological Week (EW 14/2024) from March 31 to April 6 compared to 17,256 cases in EW 1/2024.
Health director-general Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan said the number of fatality cases caused by the coronavirus also showed a significant decrease from 32 cases in EW 1/2024 to one in EW 14/2024, a 95.5 percent drop.
“Since Epidemiological Week 1 of 2024, the number of Covid-19 cases reported has shown a significant drop,” he said in a statement today.
Radzi (above) said the Omicron variant is still spreading in Malaysia, but its subvariants are not causing severe illness among infected individuals.
“Although the Covid-19 situation is improving, the virus will continue to be with us and we must be wary in facing this threat. The Health Ministry will constantly monitor the situation at the global level and in Malaysia.
“The ministry has monitoring methods to assess Covid-19 situations since the early phase of the pandemic, known as the Heightened Alert System, which is still being used now,” he said.
Radzi advised the public to be mindful of their health when gathering in large groups, especially in closed and crowded places, during the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
He recommended preventive measures such as washing hands regularly and wearing a face mask. He also stressed that those who are symptomatic should continue to practise TRIIS (Test, Report, Isolate, Inform, Seek).
Radzi encouraged the public to get sufficient rest before starting their journey to their hometowns and to take breaks at R&R areas.
