Coronavirus A Laudable Move For Now

THE government's move to temporarily ban Chinese tourists from Wuhan to Malaysia, is laudable. Although it was a bit too late, at least they listened to netizens and the pressure for it to do so.
I personally take it positively. It's not a matter of diplomatic and politic that prompted Putrajaya resorting to the ban yesterday but the conscience over how deadly the Wuhan virus or coronavirus is to the people

With thousands of Chinese nationals arriving in Malaysia every month (maybe daily), there is no guarantee that our monitoring system at the airports are sufficient enough to detect those with the disease. The health screening devices are said to detect only those with fever and other diseases and not specifically on Wuhan virus

The situation in Wuhan and its capital Hubei is said to be under control. The whole area is now under curfew but we believed that some people with the contagious disease have managed to escaped the blockades, and this is worrying

We are not against China, let alone trying to stop them from coming to Malaysia. We are just taking precautionary measures to control its outbreak in the country

With three or four cases already detected, including Malaysians who just came back from China, many are on sleepless night over further preventive measures should be taken, especially students and workers

However, irresponsible postings on the Internet suggest that the authorities must act fast to deter them, notably fake news about the outbreak of Wuhan virus and purportedly death at hospitals around the Klang Valley and elsewhere

This may lead to discomfort and panic among us

Whatever it is, extra measures are still in dire need, especially at schools, colleges, factories and populated areas. We understand how acute the shortage of medical staff is but a full collaboration among authorities should augur well for the well being of the people

Tourism is a big industry in Malaysia but if the air is not conducive for visitors and the locals, who wants to come
