Cops Still Probing If Molest Allegation Against Terengganu Politician True
Police are still working to determine whether the sexual assault allegation against a former Terengganu state assembly member is true.
Ampang Jaya district police chief Farouk Eshak said they have recorded statements from the suspect and the woman who lodged a report against him, as well as their spouses.
"There was no witness to the incident. We have taken statements from other individuals related to the case, including their spouses.
"We are still investigating the sexual assault allegation. That is why we take statements first, and have yet to make an arrest.
"We are looking into it, and will refer to the deputy public prosecutor for further instructions," Farouk told Malaysiakini today.
Three days ago, police launched an investigation over claims that Wan Ahmad Nizam Wan Abdul Hamid molested the wife of his friend when he spent the night at the couple's house in Taman Melawati around July or August last year.
The former Air Putih assemblyperson was said to have visited the couple's house with his wife.
Following news reports on the case, he came forward to deny the allegation.

Instead, the former Kemaman Umno division vice-chief claimed that his friend had made up the story, following a dispute over a RM200,000 debt that the latter allegedly owed him.
Wan Ahmad Nizam also claimed that the friend had assaulted him when they were discussing the debt issue.
The politician had lodged a police report on the incident, and a suspect was arrested on March 19.
Terengganu police chief Roslee Chik had said the case was being investigated under Section 324 and Section 427 of the Penal Code for causing hurt and committing mischief. - Mkini
