Police Investigating Opposition Politician Over Molest Claim
Police are investigating a Penang Amanah assemblyperson over an allegation that he had molested a female shop assistant two weeks ago.
According to Subang Jaya district police chief Khalid Othman, the woman had lodged a police report on March 16 alleging that Permatang Pasir assemblyperson Faiz Fadzil had acted indecently when they went out shopping at a shopping complex in Sunway.
Faiz has denied the allegations.
In her police report, the woman said the politician had asked to meet her to discuss politics, as she is also a party member.
"The woman, aged 31, said that she had gone out with the suspect about 8.40pm on March 8 to go shopping at Sunway Pyramid. When they were walking together, the suspect had allegedly tried to hold the victim's hand, but she had pushed his hand away," said Khalid.
"According to the woman, when they were in a car to go for dinner later, the suspect had (allegedly) molested her, pulled her shoulder and held her hand, but the woman had pushed him away.
"Despite knowing that the woman was uncomfortable, the suspect continued doing it. He had also allegedly told the victim not to tell anyone about what happened," he added.
The police officer said after receiving the report, police called the state assemblyperson to facilitate the investigation.
He gave his statement to the police on March 18.
Police are investigating the case under Section 354 of the Penal Code, a law that stipulates offences regarding using criminal force to outrage the modesty of a person. - Mkini
