Convene Parliament Once Emergency Is Over Puad Dares Muhyiddin
Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi wonders whether the King will grant Muhyiddin Yassin an extension when the emergency ends on Aug 1.PETALING JAYA: Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi has challenged Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to convene Parliament once the state of emergency is over.
In a Facebook post, Puad claimed Muhyiddin knew he was running out of time as prime minister.
He asked whether Muhyiddin was “brave enough” to enter Parliament as he seemed to have “lost” majority support.
“After August, will the Yang di-Pertuan Agong consent for the emergency to be extended?
“Negative comments against Muhyiddin on Istana Negara’s Facebook page indicate he is not popular.”
After Padang Rengas MP Nazri Aziz and Machang MP Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub withdrew their support earlier this year, the Perikatan Nasional administration has been left with only 110 MPs in its bloc in the 222-seat Dewan Rakyat.
But Puad claimed that PN’s actual number could be as low as 107 seats.
Netizens had also previously expressed dissatisfaction and their comments were compiled into an online movement under the hashtag #KitaMintaLima (“We Ask For Five”), imploring the King to grant five requests in the interests of the people during the Covid-19 pandemic, or have the government changed.
Among the demands were a targeted and effective movement control order, full support for frontliners by channelling all resources to fight Covid-19, an automatic bank loan moratorium and cash aid for the people throughout the MCO, and distribution of devices to children to follow online lessons. - FMT
