Controversial Razman Not Barred From Pas S Ayer Kuning Campaign

PETALING JAYA: Perak opposition leader Razman Zakaria has not been barred from campaigning for PAS in the Ayer Kuning by-election despite his defamatory remarks in the past.
Perak PAS deputy chief Akmal Kamaruddin said the issue did not arise and that all Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders were welcome to help the Islamic party wrest the seat from Umno.
“No one, including Razman, is barred from helping campaign for PN in the Ayer Kuning by-election.
“Anyone can come and campaign prudently, in a way that can attract voters to support PN,” he told FMT.
Earlier this month, Sinar Harian quoted a source as saying that Razman had been suspended as Perak PAS chief following several issues involving the Gunung Semanggol assemblyman.
These reportedly included his claim that DAP’s Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh was linked to the Yeoh family of the YTL Corporation Bhd conglomerate, for which he later apologised.
A poster on Razman’s Facebook page wishing Muslims “Happy Ramadan” did not include the “Perak PAS commissioner” title. However, there has been no confirmation of his suspension.
Razman has had to issue several apologies to government leaders over various claims, including DAP’s Nga Kor Ming for accusing him of being involved in a parade where some participants had waved China’s national flag.
The PAS man also apologised in court to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for claiming that he had condoned LGBT practices.
‘Ayer Kuning mosque claim nothing to do with PAS’
Separately, Akmal denied that the party had any links to a social media user who claimed that a mosque in Ayer Kuning had faced restrictions in making the azan or call to prayer due to purported political pressure.
“That provocation did not come from PAS or PN. We deeply respect the mosque institution under Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Shah,” said the Selama assemblyman.
The chairman of the Kampung Ayer Kuning mosque reportedly said it was no longer using the loudspeaker outside to make the azan because the PA system was facing issues. This forced the mosque to rely on its speakers inside the mosque for the azan.
However, there were later unverified claims that the mosque was no longer using its loudspeakers for the azan because of politics or complaints from non-Muslim local residents.
Akmal also reiterated that all parties should exercise caution and not make the mistake of holding political campaigns in mosques and suraus, despite their eagerness to compete in the election. - FMT
