PETALING JAYA: A civil servant is suspected to have accepted bribes ranging from RM10,000 to RM15,000 for each birth certificate issued in the fraudulent registration of babies as Malaysian citizens.
The individual was arrested in Op Outlander, an operation targeting a syndicate involved in late birth registrations, Bernama reported.
Quoting sources at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, the report said the civil servant is believed to have assisted in processing late birth registration applications, particularly in cases where births were registered more than 60 days after delivery.
MACC has frozen 11 bank accounts, totalling RM100,000, and seized 30 documents related to the ongoing investigation into the syndicate.
The sources also revealed that a doctor, arrested during the operation, was responsible for managing the birth registration documents.
They said no new arrests had been made.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya said the suspects, aged between 20 and 70, were arrested during raids at several premises, including clinics and law firms in the Klang Valley and Johor.
The raids followed a year of intelligence gathering and information-sharing between MACC and the national registration department.
The suspects are believed to have committed the offences between 2013 and 2018, and from 2023 to 2025, by accepting and offering bribes, as well as submitting false birth certification documents.
These birth certificates are believed to have been sold to parents or guardians of children without identification documents or Malaysian citizenship.
The syndicate is believed to have obtained more than 80 birth certificates through this method.
It is also suspected of having international connections and being involved in trafficking undocumented children from abroad. - FMT
