Check Your Children S Phones Regularly Kelantan Top Cop Tells Parents

Parents should check their children’s mobile phones regularly to ensure that they are not exposing themselves to harmful online content, said Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat. - NSTP FILE PICKOTA BARU: Parents should check their children's mobile phones regularly to ensure that they are not exposing themselves to harmful online content, said Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat.
He said police had discovered pornographic videos on students' phones during inspections, adding that the borderless nature of the Internet could be both beneficial and dangerous if not monitored.
"The Internet can be good or bad. Parents should make it a habit to check their children's phones all the time," he said.
Yusoff also urged headmasters and principals of all schools in the state to work closely with their respective school liaison officers to tackle bullying and crime among students.
He said officers had been assigned to every school to help prevent such incidents from occurring and to provide students with crime prevention education and information.
Yusoff then said his recent disclosure of crime statistics in Kelantan was not intended to tarnish the state's image, as alleged by some quarters.
"I want to make it clear that my intention in revealing these figures is to raise awareness, as there has been an increase in cases including those involving teenagers.
"As the state police chief, I want all stakeholders to play their part in helping the police. This is not just the responsibility of teachers or parents alone, everyone must take part," he said.
Yusoff expressed concern over the trend, noting that more than 97 per cent of those involved in drug trafficking and abuse in the state were Malays and Muslims.
He added that the school liaison officer programme would continue to serve as a key platform for collaboration between police and schools to guide students and prevent them from getting involved in crime.
On the proposal to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at schools with a high number of bullying cases, Yusoff said police would leave the matter to the state Education Department. - NST
