SUBANG JAYA: CARSOME has provided 50 cars to be loaned for one month to victims of the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, which saw 225 vehicles burnt and 174 damaged.
The integrated car e-commerce company will hand over 20 vehicles in the first phase, with the remaining cars to be delivered within a week. The victims have an option to extend the loan period by a month, if necessary.
Transport minister Loke Siew Fook praised the contribution of corporate companies working alongside the government to assist the victims, and said a company has agreed to sponsor 63 motorcycles tomorrow.
Overall, automotive companies such as CARSOME, Chery, GoCar, DRB-Hicom Bhd, and Carro have loaned 200 cars to the victims for temporary use.
Loke said CARSOME was among the three private entities which contributed to victims today, with the Berjaya Cares Foundation donating RM3,000 each to 300 families, and property developer Matrix Concept Holdings Berhad providing RM3,000 each to 100 families.
“Many companies have come forward to provide help and donations, and this is a great contribution from Malaysians,” he said during a ceremony to hand over the cars at the Putra Heights LRT Station here.
“This shows that when we face a disaster or hardship, all parties work together with the government to help each other.”
Also present were BCF chairman Vincent Tan, CARSOME CEO Eric Cheng, its managing director Chris Ang and group business officer Aaron Kee, and Selangor executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han.
“We previously provided cars to flood victims, and today, we are giving vehicles to the victims of the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights,” Cheng told FMT.
“We are offering a one-month loan for the initial stage and will extend the loan period, if necessary. We hope this will help lighten the burden of those facing hardship.” - FMT
