Bank Association Urges Putra Heights Fire Victims To Reach Out For Support

PETALING JAYA: Victims of the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights have been told to contact their banks as soon as possible to discuss financial support, if needed.
In a statement, the Association of Banks in Malaysia said it was sympathetic towards those impacted by the tragedy and said they were ready to help.
“We understand that this disaster has caused immense distress and disruption to their daily life. We want to assure those affected that we are committed to providing support during this difficult time.”
The association said borrowers who have been affected have been told to contact their banks through official websites or customer service hotlines.

A massive gas pipeline fire raged along Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, this morning. A 500m section of the pipeline was engulfed in flames.
Flames from the gas explosion spread to several houses, forcing residents to be evacuated. More than 200 homes and several hundred vehicles were damaged.
This evening, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said those whose houses were partially damaged would receive RM2,500 each in immediate aid, while the owners of houses that were badly damaged by the fire would receive RM5,000.
Meanwhile, two insurance companies have stepped forward to offer assistance to the fire victims.
Takaful Malaysia urged customers who wished to file a non-motor claim to call 012-9271686 or 017-3283543, and 1800-888-788 for motor claims.
Etiqa announced today it will cover claims for eligible customers without requiring a police report to ensure a faster claims process.
