Cahya Mata Sarawak Keeps Momentum Amid Legal Proceedings Counsel

Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd (CMS) continues to demonstrate improvements in operational performance despite ongoing legal proceedings, said its group general counsel Izzam Ibrahim.
He said the management of the Bursa Malaysia-listed company remains steadfast in ensuring business continuity and upholding stakeholder confidence.
“How can we maintain smooth operational performance? It’s because we have a dedicated management team that is strong enough to weather this storm.
“We know what we need to achieve, and at the same time, we treat our staff, partners, and the community with the respect they deserve,” said Izzam during a press conference at the CMS Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house in Kuching, today.
He also announced that CMS is taking a step forward in its sustainability journey by embracing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting for the first time this year, in compliance with Bursa’s mandatory requirements.
He said they have invested considerable time and effort to ensure accuracy and transparency in reporting, reflecting the company’s long-term commitment to responsible business practices.
“We will make sure that we report accurately and accordingly, this is how we continue to move forward, despite all the noise around us,” Izzam said.
On March 5, CMS deputy chairperson and director Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib filed an originating summons in the Kuching High Court seeking the right to inspect the books and records of the company and five subsidiaries.
Subsequently, it was reported that CMS has initiated legal action against Abu Bekir and six others.
Abu Bekir is the second child of former Sarawak chief minister and former Sarawak governor the late Abdul Taib Mahmud.
CMS’ business includes cement, property, phosphates, road maintenance, and telecommunications infrastructure.
