Burger With Unpeeled Tiger Prawns Grabs Attention Online But Will It Grab Customers

FEW foods have achieved the worldwide recognition and popularity of the humble burger. From bustling American diners to night markets in Asia, and even fine-dining restaurants in Europe, burgers have secured a place on menus everywhere.
One of the reasons why this is so is because burgers can be customised almost endlessly. In Japan, you’ll find teriyaki burgers; in India, paneer or potato patties; in Malaysia, rendang or satay-inspired burgers. This adaptability allows it to blend into different cuisines while retaining its “burger” identity.
But what happens when creativity goes overboard and a prawn patty burger is introduced into the market with the shells intact?

And it isn’t the baby shrimp but the huge tiger prawn too, also known as Udang Galah in Malay. According to the seller, the burger is priced at only RM10, defying the norm that seafood is usually expensive.
However, looking at all the unpeeled shells on the crustacean, we are certain this is not going to be a smooth dining experience.
Netizens and critics alike were quick to point out the flaws on the burger too. Take for example, @halcy0nisa who said the burger will smell fishy. According to her, she uses asam jawa to fry the prawn and added turmeric to counter the fishy smell, yet it still smells like the river.

Also, @DrogbaForlan pointed out that these people are not looking to do business but were more inclined to make up something weird.

“Brother, just make a fish burger,” said @calledmebuntal adding that it was unnecessary to remove the scales and stomach of the fish. Now this will stand out.

“Unhygenie,” said @Effendy0509 while a blunt @aidil_axlan remarked that this innovation was not needed.
On our part, we think it takes too much effort to eat this prawn burger, not unlike a crab where a hammer and some patience is required. But on the bright side, the hard shell should provide diners with some calcium content, something that conventional burgers do not give. Happy peeling.— Focus Malaysia
