Bukit Kiara Federal Park Officially Protected As Green Lung Segambut Mp
A significant portion of the Bukit Kiara Federal Park is now off-limits for development after being formally gazetted as a green lung, according to Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh.
The former deputy minister said a decision to gazette 111ha of the park was made by the previous Pakatan Harapan administration, in fulfilling her general election promise to Segambut constituents.
"The gazettement is important to ensure that this Segambut's green jewel is preserved and protected.
"Following the mandate given by the people on May 9, 2018, we worked towards fulfilling this election pledge," Yeoh said at a press conference in Parliament today, together with former federal territories minister Khalid Samad, Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil and Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng.
"This is a pivotal step to preserve and protect this precious green space in the heart of Kuala Lumpur for our future generations.
"This gazettement secures the park from land grab attempts and indiscriminate development," she said, adding that the process had started since Lim's time as the Segambut MP.
Yeoh said the gazetting of the park had also been published on Attorney-General’s Chambers' website on March 9 and July 29 but her announcement was only made today after formally obtaining a copy of the gazette.
She also clarified that the gazetted area did not cover the ongoing court dispute over Taman Rimba Kiara.
"Bukit Kiara is on top of the hills while Taman Rimba Kiara is situated at the foothills," she said, adding that the courts had not delivered a decision on the dispute. - Mkini
