Budi95 Fuel Subsidy Extended To Fishermen Boat Owners And New Drivers

THE BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) initiative has been broadened to include the fisheries sector, extending fuel subsidy benefits to fishermen, private boat owners, and newly licensed drivers.
In a statement, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) said the expansion will see more than 31,000 additional Malaysians qualifying for the targeted subsidy scheme, as the government widens its coverage to three new groups.
The newly eligible recipients comprise over 17,900 registered fishermen under the Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) and around 4,300 private boat owners registered with the Sabah Ports and Harbours Department.
According to the ministry, more than 9,700 new driving licence holders listed by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) will also start receiving the benefit.
This latest update brings the total number of Malaysians enjoying the subsidised RON95 petrol rate of RM1.99 per litre—compared to RM2.60 without subsidy—to over 16 million people.
The MoF added that it is in the process of compiling further data on unlicensed boat users across the country, particularly in Sabah and Sarawak, to ensure no eligible group is left out.
Meanwhile, the ministry said coordination efforts are ongoing between the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) and e-hailing companies to raise the current fuel subsidy limit beyond 300 litres per month for full-time drivers. This move aims to help safeguard their income stability and operational costs.
The statement reaffirmed the government’s MADANI commitment to ensuring that the targeted fuel subsidy system runs efficiently, transparently, and continues to benefit the people directly.
“The MoF and its partner agencies will maintain close oversight of the BUDI95 rollout and make improvements when necessary,” the statement said.
