Bn Ph Seat Distribution For 6 State Polls To Complete Soon Says Asyraf
Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the unity government’s national convention on May 14 at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur is expected to draw more than 10,000 delegates and supporters from 19 parties.KUALA LUMPUR: The distribution of seats between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) for the six state polls is expected to be completed soon, says Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
The Umno secretary-general said discussions have been smooth and everything is positive.
“We should be able to conclude the negotiations in the short term as the cooperation between PH and BN for the six state elections is very good.
“There are some overlapping seats as BN and PH were rivals before, but negotiations are ongoing,” he said at a press conference on the unity government’s upcoming national convention, at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL).
According to Asyraf, the convention on May 14 will be attended by more than 10,000 delegates and supporters from the 19 political parties that form the ruling administration.
He said the convention will become the starting point to create understanding and stronger collaboration at party levels, with clear goals to ensure that political stability is upheld.
“We don’t want events from the past to happen again. We already went through political instability for four years, with the government changing three times. This has hurt the people in the form of investments and economic stability,” Asyraf said.
Strong support from MPs
On the rumours of a shaky support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s administration, Asyraf stressed that all MPs remain firm in their support for the unity government and continuous discussions are held on a weekly basis.
“We are not a one-man show. No party dominates the other. It’s normal for others who are unhappy with our strength to behave in a jealous manner because they could not form the government,” he said.
Speculation about a plot to topple Anwar came about after a report that 10 BN MPs who previously supported Perikatan Nasional (PN) chief Muhyiddin Yassin after the conclusion of the 15th general election (GE15) are now conspiring to force by-elections.
There were allegations that they planned to leave the party and thus automatically vacate their seats, under the anti-hopping law.
A Bersatu leader, Faiz Na’aman had added fuel to the fire when he made a cryptic Facebook post recently stating: “Already 126 … if it’s true, Alhamdullillah (thank God).”
Faiz then said he cannot reveal anything but asked his supporters to “wait and see”. - FMT
