Bn Binding Malacca Candidates To Contracts To Deter Defections

MALACCA POLLS | After Umno defectors led to the collapse of the Malacca government, BN will for the first time bind candidates to “contractual obligations” to prevent a repeat of what happened.
BN election director Mohamad Hasan announced today that all 28 candidates in the upcoming state election will each need to sign “two to three” contracts.
“If they go against the agreements they sign with us, we will take them to court. This is not a political agreement but a contract (with a) contractual obligation.
“There is a ceiling (for costs) but that is up to the court. The ceiling is very high and if anyone wants to jump to another party after signing this, they will have to think it over two or three times.
“This is so they don’t bring problems to the party (whereby) after representing the party and winning, they betray the party,” Mohamad said during a broadcasted press conference this morning.
‘Stability for prosperity’
Elaborating, Mohamad, who is also Umno deputy president, announced that BN will be campaigning under the theme “stability for prosperity” this time around.
By binding all candidates to contracts, he hoped this would contribute to BN’s election promise of a stable state government.
“I hope this commitment will give the rakyat the confidence to choose a party that is truly committed to ensuring stability can be achieved for the prosperity of Malacca, and for the wellbeing of Malaysia,” he said.
Nomination day is on Monday (Nov 8) and polling day is on Nov 20.
Mohamad said BN - Umno, MCA, and MIC - will be contesting the state election “alone” using the BN logo.
This means the coalition will not be working with Muafakat Nasional partner PAS or federal government allies Perikatan Nasional and Bersatu.
With Pakatan Harapan in the fray, this could potentially set them up for three-cornered fights. - Mkini
