Bersatu To Fight Lawyer S Suit For Rm12 5 Mil
Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla said the RM12.5 million was for legal services rendered before Bersatu was formed until it pulled out of Pakatan Harapan and formed Perikatan Nasional last year.KUALA LUMPUR: Bersatu will challenge a suit filed by lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla who is claiming that the party owed him RM12.5 million in unpaid legal fees.
Lawyer Nurul Huda Razali, appearing for Haniff, said the High Court has ordered the office bearers of the party to file their defence by Sept 3.
“The deadline was given following an online case management before a senior assistant registrar,” she said, adding that the next case management had been fixed on Sept 10.
Chetan Lachman Jethwani represented Bersatu.
Bersatu, led by caretaker Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, was slapped with the suit last month after the party failed to respond to reminders.
Haniff, in his statement of claim, said an invoice for payment was issued on Feb 11 to party president Muhyiddin, secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin and treasurer Mohamed Salleh Bajuri.
All three were named as defendants in the suit filed in the High Court here.
In his statement, Haniff said the money was for legal services rendered before Bersatu was formed until it pulled out of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and formed Perikatan Nasional last year.
Haniff said that before the 14th general election, he represented the party in a kleptocracy, corruption and abuse of power suit against then prime minister Najib Razak and his administration.
The statement said Haniff’s services came to an end on Feb 24 last year following the Sheraton Move, which saw the collapse of the PH government. - FMT
