Bersatu Submits Memorandum Requesting Rci On Lcs To Agong

Bersatu has handed in a memorandum to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah today requesting a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to investigate the littoral combat ship (LCS) project.
Its information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan said the party wants the government to start an RCI to investigate the ships that have not been delivered as scheduled.
“This case is a big case that has taken a huge amount of the rakyat’s funds.
“We would also suggest ministers from Bersatu support the idea from other parties to start an RCI on this matter," he said.
The handover of the memorandum took place outside of Istana Negara at 3.50pm today.
Wan Saiful handed the memorandum to Agong’s senior private secretary Nazim Mohd Alim.
Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan JanWan Saiful said the RCI has to be established as the executive would not be able to fairly investigate the matter.
“This is because if we ask our current executive to investigate this, it is immoral as most of the names in the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report (on the LCS) are people with high influence in the executive.
“We are worried that if we leave this to the executive, some other forces will come into play and the investigation will not go through successfully,” he added.
The former special adviser to the education minister also called on Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to take quick action on the issue.
“There’s too much public protest (on the scandal) and so I hope the prime minister sets up an RCI as soon as possible,” Wan Saiful said.
Last week, the PAC tabled its report on the procurement of the LCS to the Dewan Rakyat, which highlighted numerous irregularities in the project.
The project was approved in 2011. At the material time, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was the defence minister while Najib was both prime minister and finance minister. - Mkini
