(Facebook pic)PETALING JAYA: A Bersatu assemblyman has vowed to champion his party’s struggle and remain an elected representative for the opposition while denying talk that he intends to pledge his support for Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari.
In a statement, Wan Dzanahurin Ahmad, the assemblyman for Sungai Kandis, also said he would continue to uphold Bersatu’s principles.
“I vehemently deny allegations that I intend to leave Bersatu or Perikatan Nasional (PN).
“Any such claims are untrue and do not come from me. Neither are they my personal view,” he said.
Selangor opposition leader Azmin Ali had earlier rubbished a report that five more assemblymen from Bersatu were set to declare support for Amirudin.
This came after Selat Klang assemblyman Abdul Rashid Asari said he would back the menteri besar, citing PN’s silence on accusations levelled against the Rulers.
According to a report by Harapan Daily, Muhaimin Harith Abdullah Sani (Batang Kali), Jamil Salleh (Dengkil), Harrison Hassan (Jeram) and Rosnizan Ahmad (Morib) were also expected to pledge their support for Amirudin, alongside Wan Dzanahurin.
Rashid’s decision to back Amirudin came days after Bersatu amended its constitution to state that MPs or assemblymen would have their membership automatically stripped if they supported any other party or policy that is not aligned with Bersatu’s position.
Bersatu amended its constitution after six of its MPs declared support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim while remaining with the party. - FMT
