Bersatu Not Part Of Pakatan And That S Final Says Party Leaders
(Yahoo News) – Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has declared that its decision to quit Pakatan Harapan was final and should not be disputed.
“We want to stress that the Bersatu supreme council meeting in its meeting last Feb 23 had decided to pull Bersatu out of Pakatan and form a new political pact with other parties.
“This decision is clear and it should not be disputed, ” said Bersatu in a joint statement by its supreme council members and 11 state party chairmen on Tuesday (May 19).
In the statement, Bersatu also declared unequivocal support for the Perikatan Nasional government led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is Bersatu president.
“We also fully support the formation of Perikatan as a political coalition with the goals and objectives under the Perikatan memorandum of understanding.
“For the sake of the people’s wellbeing and political stability, we agreed for Bersatu to join Perikatan, ” it said.
The joint statement was signed by party vice-presidents Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman and Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari, party women’s wing (Srikandi) chief Datuk Seri Rina Harun, secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, general treasurer Datuk Mohamed Salleh Bajuri and information chief Dr Radzi Jidin.
It was also signed by 14 party supreme council members and 11 state party chairmen, comprising Sarawak, Sabah, Terengganu, Johor, Federal Territories, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Perak, Pahang, Kelantan, and Selangor.
The strongly-worded statement by Bersatu was issued following Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s remark on Monday (May 18), where he told reporters during a press conference that Bersatu remains part of Pakatan.
Dr Mahathir also claimed that Bersatu supreme council had never decided to leave Pakatan for Perikatan.
