Barking Dogs In Umno
LOOKING at some UMNO Members of Parliament (MPs) appointed to Muhyiddin Yassin Cabinet and the GLCs, we can well describe them as the 'dogs of politics'. Why, because they stopped barking once they are positioned into luxury.
No, I cannot hide my feeling. Knowing how much they were against the idea of UMNO working together with TSMY-Bersatu, turning the president Zahid Hamidi into a punching bag to vent their anger and fury, avowing disgust at the new government, they are now enjoying the comfort of a bone marrow.
This is where friends turned into foes. They were Zahid's close aides in UMNO, for once when the party occupied the Opposition bench at Dewan Rakyat. Together they laughed and cried after the GE14 defeat, together they sought solutions to fortify UMNO again and together in cementing Muafakat Nasional with PAS and Barisan Nasional components.
On top of that, it was Zahid who appointed a few as members of UMNO Supreme Council because many believed they can contribute ideas and other things. However, they are turning their back on the party president.
Where are they now? You don't see them coming to UMNO HQ anymore ever since TSMY managed to fish them out over Cabinet and GLC appointments. You don't see them with Zahid anymore, leaving him with the only loyalists who feel UMNO has a better future.
It's fact. Some of those appointees are beginning to shy away. The non-appointees within the Supreme Council members whom Zahid 'picked-up' (a few of them) have started to sharpen their knives on him.
They are opportunists with self-vested interest, so to say. Self-interest is their main agenda. Most of them are considered as the deadwood of UMNO. Zahid is their political enemy when they were without any portfolio. Once the offers came, they didn't mind licking at their own spit!
But I personally believe the time will come when they have to kneel before Zahid, especially in choosing the lineup or candidates in the next general election. As president, Zahid has the prerogative right to chop them off.
Hey! Some of them have been MPs for three or four terms and maybe more. They didn't contribute well to the party except becoming macaws and create uncertainties. Maybe it's time for them to go for good.
Like that? No, they don't. After all, there is no guarantee that the new government is able to last long. Once PN is out, they will have to vacate their Cabinet and GLC seats. I wonder as to whether they are aware of it. As for now, comfort is what they worship and not for unity in the party or serving their respective constituent.
To Zahid, I would rather say 'you win some, you lose some'. In politics of the new norms, you cannot trust anybody, let alone the ones you considered as good company. The only thing for sure is that, politician can never grow old. Just look around, in Dr Mahathir for instance.
So, these are friends in politics. It's time to refurbish UMNO and getting rid of such bad elements. Cut they parasite plant before it goes higher up your tree. If you ignore it, you will be eaten up eventually!
For the time being, let's watch how those political dogs enjoy their comfort. They will bark for new bones soon...
