Azmin Changing Govt Is Allowed By Law Constitution
Changing a government is allowed as long as it does not go against the law and the Federal Constitution, Selangor Perikatan Nasional (PN) chief Mohamed Azmin Ali has said.
Elaborating, Azmin (above) said such changes in the federal administration are nothing new.
“Changing the government and the leadership at the federal level is not anything new or something that cannot be done, as the constitution allows for a government to be changed when it fails to fulfil the rakyat’s aspirations.
“When a government formed after a general election fails to solve the rakyat’s problems, the disgruntlement will be translated into actions by elected lawmakers,” the former PKR deputy president told reporters after attending the Hari Raya Aidifiltri open house organised by the Gombak Setia assemblyperson’s office today.
“As long as it (the change) is allowed under the law, and the constitution, it can be done,” Azmin, who is former Gombak MP, added.
He was commenting on rumours that the administration of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim could be toppled soon.
It is worth noting that Azmin was one of the main players of the “Sheraton Move” in 2020, which contributed to the fall of the Pakatan Harapan government that was elected in the 14th general election, two years prior.
When pressed on whether the current coalition government would be toppled or changed soon, Azmin merely said that he would leave it to the rakyat.
“The rakyat’s complaint today is that the government is unable to solve their problems.
“They (the government) talk more than they act as if they are detached from reality,” claimed Azmin.
‘PN can win 33 seats in S’gor’
Meanwhile, Azmin, who is former Selangor menteri besar, said that the target set by PN component PAS to win 33 state seats in the upcoming elections, can be achieved.
“To me, the target is reachable, because even after GE15, we scrutinised the election data and found that we have ‘won’ 14 state seats.
“In nine state seats, we lost by less than 5,000 votes. There were even seats with a 100-vote majority. This means that we only need between 1,000 and 2,000 votes (support), which makes me confident that PN can win such seats,” claimed Azmin.
Although the Selangor state election was not conducted in tandem with GE15, Azmin’s seat breakdown formula is based on the number of votes won by PN at the parliamentary level, divided by the number of state seats that fall under it.
Based on that, PN already has 23 state seats “in hand” and aspires to add to the number to surpass 30, he added.
Selangor PAS commissioner Ahmad Yunus Hairi had previously expressed confidence that PN can capture Selangor in the upcoming state polls as the state’s voters are tired of Harapan’s “lies and false promises”. - Mkini
