At Children S Day Event Tiong Reminds School Wardens Of Their Responsibilities And Urges Parents To Get Involved

Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has urged the wardens to ensure that ‘everything must be in order’. — The Borneo Post picSIBU, Nov 10 — The onus falls on school wardens to uphold the safety, maintain the discipline and enhance the moral development of students, school wardens are reminded.
In making this call, Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has urged the wardens to ensure that ‘everything must be in order’.
“Wardens must really perform, and I know some of them never carry out their duties properly.
“Whenever problems arise, they try to wash their hands of the situation – blaming here and there, which I think is unfair,” the Bintulu MP and also Dudong assemblyman told reporters when asked to clarify a point in his speech earlier at the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Children’s Day 2025 at Farley stage here yesterday.
The event was hosted by PDP Bukit Assek Division, in collaboration with PDP Nanga Salim branch, Pedada Residents Social Club Sibu, and Persatuan Kebajikan Heng Shan Sibu.
Adding on, Tiong – also PDP president – also reminded parents not to place the full burden of responsibility on schools.
“Why do I say this?
“Because some parents simply leave their children at the ‘asrama’ (hostels) and don’t visit for a month.
“When something happens, they say they’re too busy, or need to work.
“Yes, money is important, but children are more important,” stressed the federal minister.
“I hope parents would spend more time with their children; pay attention to their emotional changes and behaviours.”
Others present yesterday were PDP Bukit Assek women chief Evonne Yong, PDP Nanga Salim chairman Alex Yii, Tiong’s special duties officer Agatha Ting, and Farley Café manager Wong Siong Ming. — The Borneo Post
