Around 100 Bersih Protesters Hand Over Memorandum To Mps
Participants of the #Reformasi100Peratus rally organised by electoral watchdog Bersih marched to the Parliament grounds at 9am.
Numbering around 100 and dressed largely in black and yellow shirts, the group handed over a memorandum calling for term limits for the prime minister, enhanced whistleblower protection and a review of the Sedition Act.
The memorandum was received by Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim and Selayang MP William Leong, both from PKR.
In a statement yesterday, the group demanded that the government show its commitment by providing a clear direction and timeline outlining the direction of electoral and institutional reforms.
Earlier they had started gathering at the Tugu Negara compound, as early as 7.30am.
Among those seen at the gathering today were Bersih leaders Muhammad Faisal Abdul Aziz, Asraf Sharafi Mohd Azhar and Wong Yan Ke.
Participants were armed with placards that read “100 percent Reformasi” (I00 percent reforms) and “Malu apa Madani” (Are you ashamed, Madani?).
Police are maintaining a watchful presence with a strength of 312 personnel, which they announced to the media.
At least 50 members of the media are there to cover the event.
After receiving the memorandum at 9.15am, Hassan in a brief speech said he will continue to demand reforms in Parliament as urged by the people.

"We must have the courage to speak the truth, to bring about change (even if) it is not easy, especially the test when it comes to holding power," he said.
Leong did not offer any comments.

"We cannot call ourselves activists if we don’t dare to act.
"I hope there will be a change for the better. Reject DNAA," he said in an apparent reference to the discharge not amounting to acquittal granted to Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on corruption charges last year. - Mkini
