Ahmad Maslan (left) claims the conditions Wan Saiful Wan Jan referred to may have included allowing certain ministers from Bersatu and PAS to retain their positions in Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s government.PETALING JAYA: Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan has told Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan to clarify his comments on Bersatu’s conditional support for the prime minister.
Speaking after a Barisan Nasional (BN) meeting in Tebrau yesterday, Ahmad demanded to know whether Wan Saiful was threatening Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is also an Umno vice-president.
“The people don’t know what these conditions are, and I don’t know either… so I want to ask Wan Saiful what he means by this conditional support?” he said.
“Are you threatening or intimidating the prime minister and the current government?”

Ahmad, who is also the Pontian MP, claimed the conditions Wan Saiful may have been referring to included allowing certain ministers from Bersatu and PAS to retain their posts in Ismail’s government.
On Wednesday, Wan Saiful said it was Bersatu, and not Umno, that proposed Ismail as the prime minister to take over from Muhyiddin Yassin, adding that the party’s support for Ismail was “conditional”.
“We need to remember that Ismail is the prime minister today not because of Umno. Umno never nominated him,” he told a Perikatan Nasional (PN) ceramah in Muar.
Umno and Bersatu have been at odds even before the fall of the previous PN federal government led by Muhyiddin last August, with Umno stating that it would not work with Bersatu during the next elections. - FMT
