Apologise To Mca Ti Tells Dap Over Past Remark On Malay Attire
MCA vice-president Ti Lian Ker called on DAP to apologise to all MCA members for labelling them as Umno's lapdogs when they donned Malay attire previously.
This comes in the wake of news that DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang will be bestowed with the 'Tan Sri' title, where he is expected to be attired in a ‘Baju Melayu’ during tomorrow's investiture ceremony.
A photo of Lim wearing the traditional Malay outfit during a rehearsal ceremony is making its rounds on social media today. Ti utilised the picture in a statement on Facebook.
"I am proud to see Tan Sri Lim finally wearing a songkok, which is proper attire according to palace protocol for royal events.
"And I still remember when former Triang state assemblyperson Leong Ngah Ngah refused to wear a songkok and uniform for state assembly members during a royal event, where he cited DAP's rule against it. This happened when Lim was the DAP secretary-general.
"Now, I openly ask on DAP to apologise to MCA and all our members, whom they called 'Umno's lapdog' and labelled as traitors because we accepted the Malay tradition by wearing their traditional attire," he said.
Ti said DAP had previously apologised to GPS and Umno, among others, over their past differences and, as such, does not see why DAP cannot do the same with MCA and MIC.
"Why has DAP not apologised to MCA and MIC, their main punching bags for working with Umno to find a middle ground for our multicultural society?
"Asking for forgiveness is the best way towards unity and strengthening the unity government, especially when we are gearing up for the state elections.
"Over to you, Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang and DAP," Ti said in his Facebook post.
Earlier today, Malaysiakini reported that Lim, a former DAP chairperson, will be bestowed with the title in conjunction with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah’s formal 64th birthday celebration.
Several DAP leaders have confirmed with Malaysiakini that Lim will receive the second-highest federal award next to the title Tun.
The 82-year-old will be the first DAP leader to be bestowed the Tan Sri title, as the party's general policy not to receive any titles while in office has seen only a few among them accepting a Datukship. - Mkini
