However, Anwar said he was waiting for the results of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission’s (MCMC) investigation to determine if three sources of information he had referred to were false.
“If it is confirmed that the sources are illegitimate and that I made a mistake, I have no problem (apologising to Muhyiddin).
“But let’s wait for MCMC’s findings first,” he told the Dewan Rakyat.
He was responding to Rosol Wahid (PN-Hulu Terengganu) and opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut), who had asked if the prime minister would apologise to Muhyiddin for his claim
Anwar reportedly said that Muhyiddin, the Bersatu president, had questioned the government for burdening foreigners when they had also made significant contributions to the country.
The prime minister said the government had decided on targeted subsidies for electricity and RON95 petrol so that it could continue helping Malaysians while reducing the nation’s fiscal deficit.
Muhyiddin later denied making such a statement and urged Anwar to furnish proof that he had.
Anwar then asked MCMC to look into his claim and take the appropriate action, as part of “upholding transparency and responsibility”.
Speaking today, Anwar said one of his three sources had been confirmed to be false.
He reiterated that MCMC’s probe was into the sources he had cited, not into Muhyiddin. - FMT
