Foreigners And Subsidy Pm Orders Mcmc Probe After Muhyiddin S Denial

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has ordered MCMC to investigate whether former premier Muhyiddin Yassin had made any statement supporting foreigners’ right to subsidised fuel.
This came after the Perikatan Nasional chairperson denied having made such a statement and challenged Anwar to furnish evidence of the statement defending foreigners on the issue.
“The Prime Minister’s Office took note of the denial by Pagoh MP regarding the claim that he had defended foreigners in the issue about RON95 targeted subsidies.
“As a government that is responsible and upholds transparency, the prime minister has ordered the MCMC to investigate this matter and to take the appropriate action,” said a statement issued by the PMO.
ADSIn a separate statement later, MCMC acknowledged the prime minister's instruction and said they will take immediate action.
“MCMC will take the appropriate action immediately based on existing legal provisions.
“MCMC also reminds the public not to abuse the social media platform to spread unverified content.”
Anwar’s claim
During the Prime Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday, Anwar claimed that Muhyiddin had questioned the government’s decision not to provide petrol subsidies to foreigners.
Anwar made the remark in response to an interjection by Hulu Terengganu MP Rosol Wahid, who asked the prime minister to name the opposition leader who supported allowing foreigners to enjoy petrol subsidies.
“That was a statement by your own leader - Pagoh (MP Muhyiddin). Next time, read properly. Tell him to come to Parliament, don’t just shoot blindly.
“I’ve already answered this. Read Pagoh’s statement on why we are burdening foreigners, because foreigners also contribute to the country,” said Anwar.
In response to this, Muhyiddin issued a denial and described Anwar’s claim that he had made such a statement as a lie and slander.
He challenged Anwar to show where he supposedly made the statement defending foreigners on the issue.
The Bersatu president reiterated that he had never made such a statement and accused Anwar of failing to verify the claim properly. - Mkini
