Anwar Protests Getting Monthly Rm33 5k Minister Perks Vows To Donate Paycheck

Pakatan Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim is protesting the monetary perks he is receiving after the opposition leader post he holds was elevated to be equal to a minister.
In a statement tonight, he said he could not accept the monetary perks and will be donating it to a fund for the poor.
The emoluments Anwar is rejecting include monthly salary and allowances totalling RM33,560.20 as well as clothing allowances worth RM9.000 claimable once every three years.

Elevating the opposition leader post to a ministerial level was part of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Harapan and Putrajaya.
Anwar said he was thankful to Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob for the elevation, as well as for allocating him an office and staff.
However, he stressed that this does not mean that he would support any government policies without question and that he would continue his role as opposition leader to check and balance the government.


Previously, Anwar had lamented the allegedly slow rate of the implementation of the MOU.
He and other Harapan leaders also criticised Ismail Sabri and the government for stealing credit over a loan interest waiver for households earning less than RM5,880.

They said the government was initially against the waiver until Harapan made their case and succeeded in getting it written into the MOU. - Mkini
