Anwar Predicts Surprise In State Elections Malaysians Rising To Save Malaysia
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, despite numerous projections made by various quarters, the people would come forward to save the country as they wanted a peaceful and stable government. NSTP/DANIAL SAADGEORGE TOWN: The upcoming state elections will spring a surprise as the people, including the Malays, will continue to rise to save Malaysia, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.
He said, despite numerous projections made by various quarters, the people would come forward to save the country as they wanted a peaceful and stable government.
"This state elections will spring a surprise as the people will save Malaysia from those out to cause division.
"They will also reject leaders who stole their money when they were in power but proclaim 'Hidup Melayu' when they are no more in power.
"The Malays will come forward to save the country too. We have to take a position," he said at the Jelajah Perpaduan Madani Pulau Pinang at Persiaran Karpal Singh today.
Anwar also thanked caretaker Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow for doing an excellent job in Penang.
"Penang is a critical state. A model state of good governance, the rule of law, care for the economy and ensure every community have a place.
"I support the DAP and Pakatan Harapan position, and I will continue to give undivided support to Chow to lead Penang after the state elections," he added.
Elaborating, Anwar said he believed Chow would make Penang better with a more significant mandate from the Malays.
"Penangites have always taken the lead, not only during the 2008 general election. Even the Malay nationalism started in Penang.
"I believe they will rise again, this time to take the lead," he said.
During his ceramah, Anwar also said he would continue leading the country for the next five years.
"I have been the prime minister for eight months. God willing, I will be here for five years.
"In the eight months, I have done my very best for the people," he added.
Anwar also vowed to take stern actions to stop the endemic corruption which had been taking place in the past.
He said he had been accused of being revengeful when he took action.
"What revenge? It is just that I can't tolerate corruption. What? Do you think you have the Tun title so you can 'sakau' the people's money and we will forgive you?
"I can forgive those who threw me into prison, hit, insulted, cursed, and shamed me and my family. But I will never forgive those who steal people's money. No way. Return the money, or we will go after you.
"Pas leaders asked us to walk the talk and take action. Let me tell you that we have investigated. We have taken action (against some quarters), and they have even been jailed. For others, wait for your time," he said.
Anwar also called on the Chinese community to come out to vote on Aug 12.
"This time around, please vote to send a strong message.
"I want not only a win but a convincing victory," he said. - NST
