Anwar Meets Hamas Leader In Qatar
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has met the Hamas delegation, led by its political leader Ismail Haniyeh, during the former’s three-day official visit to Qatar.
The premier said that during the meeting, he was provided an update on the latest situation in war-torn Palestine, which has become the subject of unrelenting attacks from Israel.
“Aside from relaying my condolences for the passing of Ismail’s family members who were killed in a cruel bombing by the Zionist regime, I was also given a briefing on the situation in Gaza and Rafah.
“Since the conflict erupted eight months ago, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have been either killed or wounded, while half of Gaza has been permanently damaged by the Zionist regime’s cruelty,” Anwar wrote on Facebook this morning.
He started his official visit on Sunday, at the invitation of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Hamad Al Thani, as well as to attend the Qatar Economic Forum 2024.
Last month, Ismail’s three sons and four of his grandchildren were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza.
Elaborating, Anwar said Malaysia will remain committed on the international stage to call for a cease in attacks against Palestine, and to provide humanitarian, medical, and educational aid to victims of the war.
“Malaysia appreciates Hamas’ willingness to free hostages, particularly women and children, and to accept the peace plan by the Arab world, OIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation), and the international community.
“At the same time, Malaysia urges Israel to cease the massacre against Palestinians, free all Palestinian hostages, and agree to a peace treaty.”
