Anwar Is Just A Tool To Be Used By Everyone
Anwar is not the visionary that some think he is. He is merely a tool of someone else’s grand design. He was used by Mahathir many times from 1982 to 1995 (Mahathir even used Anwar to hide the RM31.5 billion Bank Negara Forex scandal). Anwar was used by the opposition after he was kicked out of Umno in 1998. And, until today, Anwar is still being used. And once Anwar is no longer useful, they will throw him away, just like what Mahathir did.
NO HOLDS BARRED
Raja Petra Kamarudin
There are some in DAP, PKR and Amanah who think that Malaysia’s political landscape must be credited to Anwar Ibrahim. It is due to Anwar that we are seeing what we are seeing today. Anwar introduced “Reformasi” and brought changes to Malaysia.
That is a load of nonsense. Anwar stole “Reformasi” from Indonesia just like he stole “Bersih 2.0” from us. We started the Bersih movement in 2007 — which Anwar did not want to support in the beginning, may I add — and then when he saw it was successful, he stole it and changed the name to Bersih 2.0.
Anwar was Mahathir’s tool since the beginning
Anwar is not a pioneer. He is just a copycat. He steals other people’s ideas and pretends that the ideas are his. He also quotes sayings from famous authors and books that he has never read to give an impression he is an intellectual and is well-read. And he likes to tell stories about famous people he has met and about the nice things they have said about him.
Anwar craves adulation and recognition. He likes to be surrounded by people who praise him, and he hates those who contradict him or do not agree with him. Leaders such as these are dangerous because they can be played and manipulated. All you need to do is say things that he likes to hear.
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad never liked Anwar from the beginning. The only reason Mahathir agreed to allow Anwar into Umno in 1982 was to stop him from going to PAS. Furthermore, Anwar could be used to garner the support of the Islamists.
Mustafa Ali did not like Anwar but he saw Anwar could be used to weaken Umno and BN
And that was what happened. The Islamists followed Anwar into Umno instead of going to PAS. And Mahathir made sure he castrated the Islamists to the extent that when Memali exploded in 1985 no one said anything. There was not a peep from anyone. Even PAS initially denied that Ibrahim Libya was their party member.
So, Mahathir was smart. He turned Anwar into his bitch, his bottom boy. Mahathir used Anwar and yet the Anwarists and Islamists thought it was the other way around — that Anwar was using Mahathir to become the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
Mahathir never intended for Anwar to become Prime Minister. In fact, Mahathir did not even want Anwar in Umno. And those who were close to Mahathir know this.
Mahathir then used Anwar to defeat Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah’s “Team B”. Mahathir was more or less finished in 1987 after just six years as Malaysia’s fourth prime minister. And it was Anwar, who through the Umno Youth Movement, that extended Mahathir a talian hayat. Without the support of Umno Youth, Mahathir would have been replaced with Tengku Razaleigh way back in 1987.
Karpal had a very low opinion of Anwar but he saw that Anwar can be used
When Anwar and Mahathir clashed in 1997, it caused a split in Umno for the second time, but this time worse than the “Team A versus Team B” split of 1987. When Mahathir kicked Anwar out of Umno in 1998 and the “Reformasi” movement was born, PAS and DAP saw this as a golden opportunity to bring down Umno and Barisan Nasional.
People like Mustafa Ali and Karpal Singh saw that supporting Anwar and gang would benefit PAS and DAP. The Anwar-Mahathir war could be exploited to weaken Umno and Barisan Nasional. So, PAS and DAP supported Anwar — but not because Anwar was great but because it could hurt Umno and Barisan Nasional.
Again, Anwar was used. But he thought they supported him because he was a great chap. PAS and DAP would support anyone who can hurt Umno and Barisan Nasional. Did they not also support Tengku Razaleigh in 1990 when he formed Semangat 46 and went against Umno and Barisan Nasional? Or did you think they support Tengku Razaleigh because he is a great chap?
Anwar is not the visionary that some think he is. He is merely a tool of someone else’s grand design. He was used by Mahathir many times from 1982 to 1995 (Mahathir even used Anwar to hide the RM31.5 billion Bank Negara Forex scandal). Anwar was used by the opposition after he was kicked out of Umno in 1998. And, until today, Anwar is still being used. And once Anwar is no longer useful, they will throw him away, just like what Mahathir did.
