Anwar Compares Gaza Bombardment To Hiroshima

He said this during a joint press conference with his Japanese counterpart, Fumio Kishida, in Putrajaya, Bernama reported.
“In the aftermath of the bombings, the damage in Gaza has far exceeded that witnessed in Hiroshima during World War II,” he was quoted as saying.
He then commended the Japanese prime minister, who arrived yesterday on a two-day official visit to Malaysia, for his country’s support for peace and stability in a region marred by conflicts between Palestine and Israel.
Anwar expressed Malaysia’s gratitude for Japan’s unwavering commitment to addressing the issue of Israeli settlements in Palestine and for providing extensive humanitarian aid to the war-torn Gaza Strip.
He said Malaysia was eager to collaborate with Japan, a current member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), in helping to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
Turning to regional matters, Anwar underscored Malaysia and Japan’s shared commitment to strengthening and preserving regional peace and security.
He said this commitment extends to exploring new opportunities for cooperation in the defence industry and maritime sector.
He was also pleased with plans by Tsukuba University to open a branch campus in Malaysia and was hopeful that this would be expedited.
Anwar highlighted that this move would provide Malaysian students with increased exposure and access to Japan’s high-quality education system.
Meanwhile, Anwar expressed Malaysia’s satisfaction with Japan’s assurance and the International Atomic Energy Agency’s report on the minimal radiological impact on marine life following the release of treated water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
He said Japan should continue to take the viewpoints, suggestions and concerns raised by Malaysia and other regional countries on the matter due to the transboundary effects of this action.
He said Malaysia would continue obtaining products from Japan.
Anwar also said the 50th anniversary of Asean-Japan Dialogue Relations will be held in mid-December in Tokyo.
Anwar was pleased with Japan’s commitment to support Asean initiatives, including the five-point consensus aimed at bringing peace to Myanmar. - FMT
