Amid Talk Of Umno Defections Fadillah Assures Govt Of Gps Support
Fadillah Yusoff, a senior GPS leader, said the Sarawak ruling coalition would place priority on political stability in the national interest. (Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Amid competing claims in the federal capital of possible defections by government MPs, senior GPS leader Fadillah Yusof has sought to assure the unity government of Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s backing.
Fadillah, a senior vice-president of GPS lynchpin Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), said the ruling state coalition is committed to ensuring the unity government remains stable and sustainable.
GPS will prioritise national interests above all else to ensure political stability for the nation’s sake, said Fadillah, who is a deputy prime minister in the unity federal government.
“We have agreed among the leadership of GPS that our priority is to ensure political stability and that the unity government will stay on,” the Borneo Post quoted him as saying. “This is so that we can maintain and improve the economy. We need investors and stable politics as the main foundation to move forward.”
Earlier today, Bersatu Supreme Council member Redzuan Yusof reportedly said there was talk that MPs from the government bloc, including Barisan Nasional and PKR, will support Perikatan Nasional to form a new government.
However, unity government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil brushed off the claim as mere speculation and urged the opposition to stop making statements that would confuse the public.
Separately, Fadillah said a meeting related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) which was supposed to take place this month has been postponed to January as many ministers from West and East Malaysia will not be around.
He said the ministers are slated to travel abroad on official matters.
“There are several pending matters that are being discussed by the technical committee and working committee. These matters include both the health and education sectors,” said Fadillah, who helms the government’s MA63 technical committee. - FMT
