Amanah Youth Acknowledges Challenges In Competing With Pas
Amanah Youth chief Mohd Hasbie Muda has acknowledged the challenges his party faces in competing with PAS, a political entity with over 60 years of history.
Speaking at the 2024 Amanah Youth Convention in Klang, Hasbie conceded that PAS’s entrenched presence, including its network of religious activities, mosques and kindergartens such as Pusat Asuhan Tunas Islam (Pasti), poses a formidable challenge.
“It’s difficult for us to match PAS in terms of religious talks or their dominance in mosques and surau because they’ve existed for over six decades.
“Competing with their fiery speeches, extensive Pasti network, or even their Amal Unit is not easy,” he said.
However, Hasbie emphasised that Amanah Youth should focus on its strengths rather than directly competing in areas dominated by PAS.
Drawing from the fable of the tortoise and the hare, the senator highlighted the importance of leveraging their unique advantages.
Amanah Youth chief Mohd Hasbie Muda“In the fable, the tortoise couldn’t win a straightforward race against the hare, so it proposed a competition involving both land and water.
“The hare excelled on land but the tortoise’s ability to swim gave it the victory. Similarly, Amanah Youth must focus on its strengths to succeed,” he explained.
Earlier GE16?
Meanwhile, Hasbie predicted that the Sabah state election will likely be held towards the end of 2025, while the 16th general election is expected to occur earlier than its 2027 deadline.
He stated that as these elections approach, the party faces significant challenges, particularly from Perikatan Nasional.
“PN will continue to exploit issues claiming threats to Malays and Muslims to incite the public into rejecting the unity government.
“They have no substance in terms of integrity or governance but instead manufacture slander using extreme racial and religious sentiments,” Hasbie said.
Defend national unity
As a result, Hasbie urged Amanah’s Youth wing to act swiftly and report any slanderous claims made by PN.
“I hope Amanah Youth doesn’t wait for instructions from the party. If there are any slanderous statements from PN leaders, file a police report immediately.
“Don’t delay, because they lack any constructive ideas for better governance; their only agenda is to create chaos.
“That is why, when any slander arises, lodge a police report so that they grow weary of facing the consequences of their actions.
“We cannot allow it to continue unchecked. In the past, we let many of these incidents slide, and they kept repeating their slanderous statements,” he added.
Hasbie stressed that the youth wing must be more assertive, particularly in convincing the public that the Pakatan Harapan-BN government is the best coalition for the country.
“We must consistently assure the public that Harapan is the best coalition, working alongside unity government partners, not only to govern the country effectively but also to safeguard the rights and privileges of Malays,” he said.
Additionally, Hasbie said Amanah Youth must serve as a bulwark in defending national unity.
“In today’s world, challenges to unity are ever-present. Issues related to 3R (royalty, race, and religion) will continue to be exploited, pitting communities against one another and planting prejudices among different societal segments. Amanah Youth must act as a bastion to defend national unity.
“We are responsible for educating society, particularly the younger generation, about the importance of rejecting hate politics and adopting narratives of justice and harmony.
“We must also emphasise that defending Malay privileges and Islam’s position within the Constitution does not contradict the principle of justice for all. We believe justice is not about granting special treatment to one group but about ensuring everyone’s rights are respected based on needs and circumstances,” he added. - Mkini
