Amanah Urges End To Religious Debates For Harmony

JOHOR Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) has called for an end to debates involving religious figures, warning that they could heighten tensions among different faith communities.
Its chairman Aminolhuda Hassan, criticised certain parties for exploiting interfaith issues for personal gain, worsening social divisions. He stressed that such debates highlight differences rather than fostering unity and urged the government to take strict action against those provoking racial and religious discord.
“Amanah sees certain parties acting as ‘instigators’ in this issue for their own personal interests. This attitude only worsens the situation rather than providing a solution. If left unchecked, it could threaten the nation’s social stability,” he said in a press statement on Saturday (March 8).
The party also called for more aggressive measures to curb racial provocation and ensure national stability remains intact.
Meanwhile, Housing Minister Nga Kor Ming said today the Cabinet has unanimously agreed that strict action will be taken against any instigators of racial and religious discord.
“Unity and harmony among our multiracial society are the foundation of our nation’s development. Do not let malicious elements disrupt the peace and divide us,” he wrote on X.
His post is accompanied by a media release from the Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
On the other hand, independent preacher Zamri Vinoth has accepted MIC deputy president M Saravanan’s challenge to a debate following backlash over his remarks on the kavadi ritual. Zamri agreed to the debate via Facebook, with Saravanan proposing March 23 as the date and offering Kuala Lumpur as the venue.
The challenge arose after Zamri claimed Hindu worshippers performing the kavadi appeared “possessed and drunk on toddy”, sparking public outrage. Authorities are investigating the preacher, while several politicians, including RSN Rayer and Ramkarpal Singh, have called for legal action against him. — Focus Malaysia
