Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh pulled no punches yet again, over the latest blunder involving the Jalur Gemilang, in which a man is seen carrying the flag upside down on a pole, whilst another man records him.
In a Facebook video today, Akmal sarcastically asked whether the person involved is also disabled.
"I want to ask if this person is also disabled, for him to ask another person to take his picture holding the flag upside down," he said.
Akmal further said that he has instructed youths in Penang, where the video was allegedly taken, and Umno Youth across the country to lodge police reports against this latest incident starting tonight.
"We urge the government to take action against ‘traitors’ who do not know how to respect the Malaysian flag and also this country," he said.
ADSHe also accused those who "back up" the people embroiled in flag errors as "empty-headed".
The latest flag blunder went viral on social media after a Facebook account under the name Nazirul Hafiz posted a 20-second video depicting the incident.
It garnered around 2,400 "likes", 3,600 comments and 5,400 comments.
Previous gaffe
This marks the sixth national flag blunder in recent months, with one ironically involving the Education Ministry itself.
The most recent prior incident occurred at SJKC Chung Hua in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, where the Malaysian flag was mistakenly displayed upside down.
Following that incident, Lukut assemblyperson Choo Ken Hwa revealed that the mistake was due to a worker with special needs. However, Akmal had urged the authorities not to back down, despite the explanation.
Akmal subsequently made a controversial Facebook post saying that DAP Youth leaders should be given "an OKU (disabled) card too" after they accused him of being inconsistent and hypocritical.
After heightened brickbats, he later defended his comment, claiming it was aimed at the wing and not the disabled community. - Mkini
