Agong Returns To Istana Negara After Treatment At Ijn
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah has completed his treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur.
According to Bernama, His Majesty, accompanied by Queen Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah, left for Istana Negara at 12.40pm this afternoon.
Sultan Abdullah had received treatment at IJN since Sept 21, first for food poisoning and subsequently for sports-related injuries, which were revealed following an MRI on Sept 22.
"Alhamdulillah, His Majesty has recovered.
"Following the advice of IJN's specialists, His Majesty would be resting at Istana Negara," said Istana Negara's Comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadli Shamsuddin.
He added that Sultan Abdullah also performed the Friday prayers soon after reaching Istana Negara.
His Majesty's return to Istana Negara is poised to set in motion another political crisis with opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim claiming to possess sufficient support from lawmakers to form a new government.
When Sultan Abdullah was hospitalised, Anwar held a press conference on Sept 23 to declare that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's government had collapsed.
The opposition leader said he had submitted the list of MPs backing him to the palace and would reveal more after an audience with His Majesty.
Following this, Istana Negara issued a statement that an audience was granted to Anwar and his wife, PKR advisor Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, on Sept 22 but this was cancelled due to the king's health condition.
In February, Sultan Abdullah was confronted with a political crisis following the resignation of Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister and the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government.
His Majesty then proceeded to conduct interviews with all 222 MPs before appointing Muhyiddin as prime minister after the latter forged an alliance with Umno/BN, PAS, GPS and others called Perikatan Nasional (PN).
However, PN's three-seat majority has left the current administration in a fragile situation.
After Anwar's announcement, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi revealed that numerous MPs from his party and BN are supporting Anwar. - Mkini
