After Bow Dap Dared To Show Backbone With Quit Ultimatum
Urimai chairperson P Ramasamy has dared his former party to issue an ultimatum to the government - arrest and prosecute those responsible for Teoh Beng Hock’s death, or face the withdrawal of DAP’s support.
“Anything less would confirm what many now suspect - that the party has become morally bankrupt, more concerned with power, positions, and perks than justice.
“Has DAP lost its soul? Or does it still have the backbone to fight for the justice it once demanded? The time for speeches and symbolic bows is over. The Teoh family and Malaysians deserve decisive action, not disgraceful silence,” he added in a statement.
Ramasamy (above) was responding to several DAP leaders, led by secretary-general Anthony Loke, bowing for a minute in “respect and sorrow” to the family of the late political aide.
Loke also appealed to the grieving family to consider accepting the government’s “goodwill contribution” over the political aide’s tragic death.
However, Ramasamy said this appeared to signal the end of DAP’s pursuit of justice.

The late Teoh Beng Hock“For a party that once championed the truth behind Teoh’s death with such fervour, this recent act is nothing short of a betrayal. Instead of pressing for accountability, DAP now seems to be cushioning the unresolved grief with financial compensation. This is not justice - it’s an escape route.
“It is shameful that the DAP leadership, now part of the Pakatan Harapan-led coalition government with 40 MPs, lacks the courage and moral integrity to demand closure in this tragic case.
“Despite the power it holds, the party seems paralysed, unwilling to confront those responsible within the MACC for Teoh’s death 16 years ago,” he added.
Hollow apology
Ramasamy, who joined DAP in 2005 and quit in 2023, claimed that there is no significant difference between DAP and MACC now, with both appearing more interested in paying off the family than ensuring accountability.
“The MACC’s involvement in Teoh’s death remains unaddressed, yet both entities are offering compensation, as though money can overwrite justice.
“This shift is not just disappointing - it is deeply offensive to the Chinese community that once placed unwavering faith in DAP. It is a slap in the face to the Teoh family, who are now expected to accept money in lieu of truth,” added the former Penang deputy chief minister II.

Muda secretary-general Ainie HaziqahSimilarly, Muda expressed disappointment with DAP’s call for the family to accept the compensation and apology.
The party’s secretary-general, Ainie Haziqah, said an apology without full accountability is hollow as it does not bring closure, and does not serve justice for a tragedy that has haunted the nation for years.
“Teoh’s death was not a simple accident, but was a matter involving government institutions and the abuse of power.
“We remind especially those in government today who once stood in opposition, demanding justice, that public trust in our institutions hinges on genuine accountability, not mere words.
“Justice cannot be negotiated for convenience. The same goes for how this apology cannot be accepted without proper accountability.
“Muda stands firmly with the family of Teoh and the rakyat in demanding clear answers and real consequences for those involved. We reject any attempt to turn this long-standing injustice into a political compromise,” she added in a statement.
Publicity stunt
At a press conference earlier, Loke, accompanied by party vice-chairperson Teo Nie Ching, Selangor DAP chief Ng Sze Han, and Teoh’s former boss, Ean Yong Hian Wah, had bowed for about a minute.
Loke stressed that the goodwill contribution does not mean the case would be closed.

DAP leaders bowing for a minute earlier today in a plea to Teoh Beng Hock’s family to accept MACC’s apology and goodwill contribution“The case remains unresolved, it remains open, and it means in no way by accepting the contribution that they are satisfied or have agreed to settle the case. Not at all,” he emphasised.
MACC chief Azam Baki yesterday issued an apology and extended a goodwill contribution, calling it a “gesture of compassion” in recognition of the prolonged pain and suffering endured by the family.
However, the family rejected both the apology and the offer, dismissing them as a mere publicity stunt. - Mkini
