Beng Hock S Family Insists On Justice After Dap Bow
The family of Teoh Beng Hock remains firm in its call for justice over the former political aide’s tragic death, despite recent apologies from MACC and a show of sorrow from DAP leaders.
In a Facebook post today, Beng Hock’s sister, Teoh Lee Lan, emphasised that the family is not willing to accept the lack of progress in its demands towards the authorities.
“Noted with thanks. We have heard two apologies over the last two days.
“However, (while) DAP must share our views on justice for Beng Hock, we are much more concerned about (our) main demands which have yet to materialise,” Lee Lan said in the brief post.
Detailing the family’s efforts to seek the truth and realise justice for Beng Hock, Lee Lan (above, right) said such measures include inviting an international criminal investigation expert to reinvestigate the case.
The family, alongside the Teoh Beng Hock Association for Democratic Advancement (TBH-ADA), has repeatedly called for such an expert to lead a new probe while urging the police to probe all possible angles, including murder or culpable homicide.
Earlier today, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke and several party leaders, including Beng Hock’s former boss, Ean Yong Hian Wah, bowed in “solemn respect and sorrow” to his family.

(L-R) Selangor DAP chief Ng Sze Han, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, vice-chairperson Teo Nie Ching, former Selangor state exco Ean Yong Hian WahLoke also appealed to the grieving family to consider accepting the government’s “goodwill contribution” over the former political aide’s tragic death.
DAP has come under fire for the lack of justice in Teoh’s case despite having campaigned heavily on the tragedy over multiple election cycles.
Loke, however, said a “long outstanding” public apology by MACC to Teoh’s family yesterday, and its offer to provide contributions to help the deceased’s son, showed the Madani government’s sincerity.
‘Insincere’ apology
In a same-day response to the anti-graft agency’s offer, Lee Lan and TBH-ADA told a press conference that the family is extremely saddened and outraged over MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki’s statement, which she deemed “insincere”.
ADSTo highlight the absurdity of Azam’s offer, Lee Lan suggested a counter-offer: hand over the lives of the five officers implicated in Beng Hock’s death, and the family will organise a crowdfunding campaign for their relatives.

MACC chief commissioner Azam BakiThe officers implicated at the time were the Selangor MACC deputy director Hishamuddin Hashim, investigating officer Mohamad Anuar Ismail, as well as MACC officers Hairul Ilham Hamzah, Mohd Ashraf Mohd Yunus, and Zulkefly Aziz.
In 2009, Beng Hock, who was then-Seri Kembangan assemblyperson Ean Yong’s aide, was found dead after overnight questioning at Selangor MACC, which was at the time headquartered at Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam.
A 2011 royal commission of inquiry (RCI) ruled that he was driven to suicide due to aggressive interrogation. However, in 2014, the Court of Appeal ruled his death was caused or accelerated by unlawful acts, including those of MACC officers.
On Nov 21 last year, the Kuala Lumpur High Court ordered the police to complete the investigation into Beng Hock’s death within six months.
In May, the Attorney-General’s Chambers ultimately classified the case as no further action. - Mkini
