After 8 Days Only 8 Of Pkr Members Have Voted At Party Polls
PKR members, who have registered, have until midnight tonight to cast their online votes.KUALA LUMPUR: Online voting in the 2022 PKR elections, which was implemented for the first time, has proceeded smoothly with 67,419 party members voting via the ADIL application since May 18.
Party election committee chairman Zaliha Mustafa said they included those who voted online, especially for PKR members who are abroad in countries like Singapore, Switzerland, Korea and the US.
Voting online was held from May 18 till today.
“The total number of members registered to vote online was 76,926. They have until 11.59pm tonight to cast their votes,” she said today.
However, the voter turnout for both physical and online voting was very low at only 8%, or 90,304 members.
She said the total included 20,813 members, who had voted physically in 10 states so far, namely in Kelantan, Terengganu, Johor, Kedah, Pahang, the federal territories, Perlis, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Penang.
The party elections entered their eighth day today.
Zaliha was confident the total turnout would go up when members in Selangor and Sabah cast their ballots, as these two states have many PKR members.
A total of 1,118,423 PKR members are eligible to vote in the 2022 PKR elections, in which 11,282 candidates are contesting for posts at the central, branch and wing levels.
On allegations of security problems with the ADIL application, Zaliha stressed that the system, which was introduced on Feb 28, had various security features in place to reduce any possibility of manipulation or fraud.
She said the existing security features in the use of the ADIL application along with the tightly controlled voting system and process, and the introduction of ballot ink, ensured the party elections were transparent, fair and safe.
The party’s elections will continue tomorrow, with physical voting in Selangor while voting for Perak, Sabah and Sarawak is on May 22.
The unofficial results of the winning candidates will be posted on PKR’s official website within 24 hours after the voting process ends on Sunday (May 22) while the official results will be announced at the PKR congress on June 25. - FMT
