A Rare Occasion When The Entire Madani Machinery Whacked Mca After Wee Ka Siong S Blood
IT’s rare indeed when every entity of the Madani government appears to be in sync with UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh whose sharp tongue delivered a stinging rebuke from 6,970km away in Mecca — silencing Johor MCA’s overreaction to the absence of free toll this Lunar New Year.
No doubt the Barisan Nasional (BN) component party soon apologised over the Facebook (FB) post which bordered 3R (race, religion. royalty) breaches for it questioned federal allocations for Islamic-related matters chiefly the printing of one million copies of the Quran and the RM1 bil annual allocation for JAKIM (Department of Islamic Development Malaysia).
But even then, the apology to Muslims over the damning Mandarin FB post uploaded on Monday (Jan 26) which somehow coincided with the Muslim Israk & Mikraj celebration was mired in controversy in view of contrasting reasoning offered by the Johor MCA and the national MCA Youth information chief Neow Choo Seong.
While the party’s state MCA has faulted a “Facebook (FB) administrator who had long retired from the party office”, its national level youth wing had attributed the matter to the Johor MCA’s FB “gotten hacked” before retracting its statement few hours later to reflect the stance of the state MCA.
This has invited pro-Madani political commentator Liyana Marzuki to slam MCA given its act of deleting the FB post upon a public uproar is regarded as insincere.
“The original post was in Chinese but the apology post is in the national language. It seems that their target demographic is very different,” she observed.
Where to hide face?
“If you are sincere and know you are wrong, admit it to the Chinese voters in Chinese. If this is the case, people will believe that it is just a wayang (theatrical exercise) to save the day.”
Added Liyana: “To me, MCA is desperate. To remain relevant, they need to attack the (Madani) government to win over the Chinese so that they can be a (formidable) opponent to DAP.”
Already bad enough that such unpleasant chain of events has to unfold on the eve of an auspicious celebration for the Chinese community, this will surely reflect poorly on MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong who is also the party’s Johor state liaison chairman and five-term Ayer Hitam MP (a parliamentary constituency in Johor).
Not only that Johor’s DAP committee member Shazwan Zdainal Abidin has demanded Wee to bear full responsibility over the ordeal, he will certainly be in an awkward position when confronting Muslim guests at the traditional MCA open house today (Jan 29), not to mention Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia who happens to be a Johor ruler himself.
Elsewhere, Johor PKR Youth has also condemned the post, accusing Johor MCA of attempting to create a “false and malicious” narrative against the government’s support for Islam and the Palestinian issue.
“This action is not only irresponsible but it also clearly shows an effort to divide the multi-racial and multi-religious people of Malaysia,” the movement’s treasurer Dr Raju Krishnan pointed out in a statement.
Raju further reiterated that the government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has consistently upheld the sensitivities of all races and religions. – Focus Malaysia
