Student Rally A Wake Up Call For The Madani Regime But Is Anwar Listening
THE student rally at Dataran Merdeka yesterday stirred controversy and left a significant impact on the Madani government. Shouts of “Madani tipu” echoed across Kuala Lumpur.
A video shared on X showed participants carrying banners and posters criticising the government, particularly Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
One banner featured a caricature of Anwar with the words “Bapa pembebasan perasuah” (Father of Corruption Pardons).
This appeared to strike a nerve with supporters of the Madani government.
Dozens of mostly young protesters held a peaceful anti-corruption rally in downtown Kuala Lumpur yesterday, urging Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to accelerate reforms and tackle corruption.
Starting from Sogo shopping centre, the march concluded at Merdeka Square, with the crowd growing to around 200 participants.
Protesters also chanted slogans like “Don’t release Najib” and “Die, die corrupters” while carrying posters condemning corruption.
Anwar had previously denied any involvement in corruption cases or the release of political leaders accused of corruption.
He also urged critics to look into the billions he claim politicians have stolen or helped in the siphoning of money in Malaysia.
Nevertheless, former Deputy Chief of Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK), Syed Badli Shah Syed Osman said the government should remain open and accept criticism voiced by students, especially on issues related to corruption.
“We hear the voices of students criticising the government regarding corruption issues. On behalf of the government, let us not retaliate against the criticism of these young students. These calls for awakening also represent the voices of the people.
“The government must be attentive and listen to every concern of the people. Whatever needs improvement, improve it. Don’t be arrogant…,” he said in a Facebook post on Saturday. — Focus Malaysia
