70 Of Malaysian Employers Want To Vaccinate All Staff Survey Finds

A survey by a human resources firm reveals that the vaccination intent of Malaysian employers is higher than that of Australia, the UK and New Zealand.PETALING JAYA: Seventy per cent of Malaysian businesses will mandate Covid-19 vaccinations for all their staff, a survey by a human resources firm has shown.
The findings from the Employment Hero Survey 2021 also showed that 76% of employees want to be vaccinated and only 7% would refuse to take the vaccine.
In a statement, Employment Hero said of all the countries surveyed, Malaysian employers showed the highest level of compulsory vaccination intent compared with Australia (33%), the UK (33%), and New Zealand (35%).
“Despite high levels of acceptance of vaccinations among the Malaysian workforce, the uncertainty of vaccine rollout timelines leave many hesitant about returning to the office any time soon,” it said.
“Only 29% of Malaysian employees and 31% of Malaysian employers were expected to return to the office in the next six months.”
The survey found that Malaysian employers were considering long-term remote or flexible working models to safeguard their workforce from continued restrictions and risks.
It said that with the future of work still uncertain, stress levels among Malaysian employees (61%) and employers (58%) had risen but many employees (47%) were uncomfortable discussing their mental health with superiors.
The firm’s chief executive officer, Ben Thompson, said attention was needed to address the mental health fallout of Covid-19 in the workforce.
Thompson said the workplace was an important environment to discuss mental health, but due to the stigma attached to it and the fear of job loss, many continue to suffer in silence.
“Employers have the opportunity to change this climate by making mental well-being a business priority,” he said.
“Providing employees with the right resources and supportive leadership, and taking a customised approach to mental health are great first steps.” - FMT
