2 Mps Ejected After Argument Over Takbir
Parit Buntar MP Misbahul Munir Masduki (left) demanded that the government lift the alleged ban, while Hulu Langat MP Sany Hamzan accused him of misleading the Dewan Rakyat.KUALA LUMPUR: Speaker Johari Abdul ejected two MPs from the Dewan Rakyat – one from Pakatan Harapan (PH) and the other from Perikatan Nasional (PN) – after they got into a heated argument over an alleged ban on “takbir”‘ chants in school.
The war of words was sparked after Misbahul Munir Masduki (PN-Parit Buntar) alleged that the education ministry prohibited students and teachers from chanting “takbir” and reciting prayers in religious schools during the Palestine Solidarity Week, which was organised in schools nationwide last week.
He went on to demand religious affairs minister Na’im Mokhtar to “lift the ban”.
Sany Hamzan (PH-Hulu Langat) then accused Misbahul of misleading the Dewan with such claims, saying it was false, and this led to an argument breaking out between them.
Johari ordered both MPs to stop arguing and sit down. When they refused to comply, he asked them to leave the hall immediately “and come back tomorrow”.
The session resumed with Aminolhuda Hassan (PH-Sri Gading) debating the 2024 supply bill.
PAS MPs previously alleged that “takbir” chants and Qunut Nazilah prayers were not allowed to be recited in schools during the Palestine Solidarity Week.
One of them, Pasir Mas MP Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, demanded that education minister Fadhlina Sidek provide an explanation over the matter. - FMT
