11 Harapan Malacca Reps To Meet Governor After State Govt Collapse Claim
All 11 Pakatan Harapan state assemblypersons in the Malacca state government have requested a meeting with Malacca Governor Ali Rustam, said state Harapan chief Adly Zahari in a statement.
"The meeting is to discuss efforts that can be taken to ensure political stability in the state and continuity of the state administration," said Adly, a former Malacca chief minister for Harapan.
This follows a press conference led by Sungai Udang state assemblyperson Idris Haron who, together with three others, announced their decision to withdraw support for Menteri Besar Sulaiman Md Ali.
Idris, a former Malacca chief minister from Umno, also claimed the current state government had collapsed.
Also at the press conference with Idris were assemblypersons Nor Azman Hassan (Pantai Kundur), Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Pengkalan Batu), and Noor Effandi Ahmad (Telok Mas).
“We have already sent a letter to the chief minister of this decision to withdraw support.
“We have attended (the press conference) showing distrust of the state government leadership today.
"We also resigned (as state executive councillors) which means the government is no more," Idris said during the press conference in Malacca, today.
During the 14th general election in May 2018, Harapan scored a narrow victory of 15 seats to 13 for Idris' BN coalition and he was replaced as chief minister by Amanah's Adly Zahari.
However in March 2020, two Bersatu reps and one each from PKR and DAP switched allegiance, which led to Sulaiman commanding majority support and being sworn in as chief minister instead.
Interestingly, Norhizam was the DAP representative who had jumped ship then.
