PUTRAJAYA: The successor to chief secretary Zuki Ali, whose contract ends this Saturday, will be announced soon, says Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

No, (we don’t have the candidate yet), we will announce one very soon, he told reporters when asked about potential candidates.During his speech at the Prime Minister’s Department’s monthly assembly this morning, Anwar had said that the gathering would be Zuki’s final one in his role as chief secretary.

But it’s not exactly a retirement because he has other important tasks (to undertake) within the public service, he said.
Anwar also expressed appreciation for Zuki’s service, saying his advice, suggestions and insights had been crucial to both the public service and the nation.

I am grateful that since I was appointed prime minister, I have had the privilege of being supported not only by a valued friend in administration but also by a crucial pillar of public service, he said.
Zuki has been serving as chief secretary since Dec 31, 2019. He was expected to retire on Aug 10, 2022, but was given a two-year contract extension.
He previously worked in the finance ministry, education ministry, rural and regional development ministry, home ministry and natural resources and environment ministry.
Zuki also served at Istana Negara and has held positions as Sarawak’s federal secretary and secretary-general of the defence ministry.  - FMT
