Zara S Death Suspend Sabah School Staff Not Relocate Dap Mca Youth Wings
Youth wings of DAP and MCA urge the Education Ministry to suspend the school staff who are being investigated over Zara Qairina Mahathir’s death immediately, instead of merely relocating them.
In a statement today, Sabah DAP Youth chief Chan Loong Wei said the school officials must be suspended until the investigation is complete.
"Suspension is an urgent and necessary measure to ensure that the investigation is carried out independently, transparently, and without any interference or influence from the parties involved.
“Sabah DAP Youth asserts that mere relocation is not sufficient. These officers must be suspended until the investigation is completed and they are proven innocent.
ADS“Allowing individuals under investigation to remain in active positions, even in different locations, risks undermining public confidence in the integrity of the investigation process.
“This case requires a zero-tolerance approach towards any perception of interference or undue influence on witnesses, students, or school staff,” he said.
According to Chan, suspension during investigations is also standard practice for serious cases, especially those involving the death of a student.
He emphasised that Sabah DAP Youth stands firmly with Zara’s family and the people of Sabah who continue to demand accountability, transparency, and justice throughout the process.
Echoing Chan’s sentiments, MCA Youth secretary-general Saw Yee Fung said a suspension would safeguard the integrity of the investigation, while maintaining public trust in its outcome.

MCA Youth secretary-general Saw Yee Fung“Suspension is not merely a procedural necessity. It is a signal to society that we uphold a zero-tolerance stance on such matters.
“It would also reflect the government’s seriousness in tackling issues of bullying and safety in our schools,” she said in a statement today.
Ex-minister unimpressed
Earlier today, the Education Ministry announced that the principal, senior assistant of student affairs, and all wardens at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Tun Datu Mustapha would be placed in the Sabah State Education Department until police investigations into the teen’s death have concluded.
This is pursuant to a special task force from Bukit Aman taking over investigations.
However, former minister Saifuddin Abdullah was unimpressed with the decision, adding that those transferred should be investigated.
“Investigate them, not just transfer them out,” he said on X.

Zara Qairina MahathirADSZara was found unconscious in a drain below her school dormitory in Papar on July 16 and died the following day at Queen Elizabeth Hospital I in Kota Kinabalu.
Her family believes bullying may have played a role. Her death has sparked various conspiracies, including a purported cover-up.
The conspiracies were exacerbated by the local police’s failure to perform an autopsy, which led to her remains being exhumed for a post-mortem.
The Attorney-General’s Chambers has since ordered an inquest to probe Zara’s death. - Mkini
